To improve file system reliability on the Secure Computing Facility (SCF), Livermore Computing (LC) is reducing the complexity of the SCF Lustre file system environment by moving all file systems to the same software and hardware versions, reducing the total number of file systems to four (from six), and mounting file systems from fewer clusters. When these changes are fully implemented, the SCF computing environment will have the following configuration:
Machine Name | File System(s) Mounted | Visualization Partition |
---|---|---|
Sequoia | lscratch1 | Max/pvis |
Max | lscratch1 | Max/pvis |
Zin | lscratch3 | Zin/pvis |
Juno | lscratch6, lscratch7 | Graph/views |
Graph | lscratch6, lscratch7 | Graph/views |
Muir | lscratch6, lscratch7 | Graph/views |
Inca | lscratch 6, lscratch7 | Graph/views |
CSLIC | lscratch1, lscratch3, lscratch6, lscratch7 | N/A |
The implementation schedule to improve the stability and reliability of the SCF Lustre file systems is shown below.
January 31 | lscratch6 retires (completed) |
February 5 | lscratch7 Generally Available and mounted by Juno, Graph, Muir, and Inca (completed) |
February 13 | lscratch2 unmounted from all systems except CSLIC (completed) |
February 18 | lscratch3 unmounted from all systems except Zin and CSLIC lscratch4 unmounted from all systems except CSLIC lscratch5 unmounted from Zin |
March 4 | lscratch2 retires |
April 15 | lscratch6 (new) mounted on Juno, Graph, Muir, Inca, and CSLIC lscratch5 unmounted from all systems except CSLIC lscratch4 retires |
June 2 | lscratch5 retires |
LC highly recommends that users take the following actions:
- Zin users should only move files needed for immediate use to lscratch3. Files not needed for running on Zin should be deleted or moved to SCF archival storage.
- Juno, Graph, Muir, and Inca users should only move files needed for immediate use to lscratch7. Files not needed for running on Juno, Graph, Muir, and Inca should be deleted or moved to SCF archival storage.
- Do not feel compelled to immediately move large amounts of data from lscratch4 and lscratch5. Your data on these file systems will remain accessible through CSLIC until the above-advertised retirement dates.
The LC Hotline is currently developing guidelines and recommendations for how best to move your data between Lustre file systems. This guidance will be made available the week of February 17. As always, please contact the LC Hotline if you would like assistance with moving files from one lscratch file system to another.
