GDO data custodians take responsibility for data that are made available to others via the GDO. Each project shall have one or more data custodians; each must be an LLNL employee and a U.S. citizen. The data custodian has a login account and special privileges that enable him or her to manage the project's datasets.

The following are things the data custodian may need to do:

  • Move project data onto the GDO from other LLNL hosts, using FTP or any other approved protocol.
  • Understand and use the available access control mechanisms if the project wishes to restrict access to its data.
  • Understand and follow the process whereby external collaborators can upload data to the GDO. In short, the data custodian must review and approve data from external sources before making it available to others. See Terms & Conditions for more details.
