File Transfer and Sharing
- LC supports a wide variety of file transfer protocols and tools, including FTP, NFT, HSI, SFTP, SCP, HTAR, Hopper, and give/take.
- If you have multiple groups and/or resources that you manage together or you have a need to share data between teams, the IDM team can create a defined role (also called advanced role-based sharing) for your convenience.
- See File Sharing and Transfer and Using LC File Systems for important usage information.
- If you are a Tri-lab user, please see our Tri-Lab Distance Communication Transfer Tools page.

Purging
- Presently LC does not purge any of its file systems.
- Temporary file systems (e.g. /var/tmp and aliases /tmp and /usr/tmp) are ephemeral. Data in /var/tmp is cleared at the end of batch jobs.
- See Purge Policies and Using LC File Systems for details.
Disaster Recovery Backups
- Home directories and a few other LC file systems and data are backed up for disaster recovery.
- Temporary file systems are not.
- For details, see Backups and Using LC File Systems.
Snapshot Backups
- User home directories, /p/vast/, /usr/workspace, /usr/gapps, and /usr/gdata have a read-only, online directory for user-accessible data recovery.
- "Hidden" .snapshot subdirectory will not appear in ls commands
- You can cd .snapshot
- Contains multiple subdirectories, each containing a full backup and a timestamp when the backup was created.
- .snapshot is read-only directory
