This in-person workshop will target High Performance Computing (HPC, a.k.a supercomputing) novices who are unfamiliar with topics such as Unix, batch jobs, and workflow tools. It can be taken as a precursor to LC's Getting Started workshop (June 10-12 and July 1-2, 2024).

Description

HPC Carpentry aims to introduce High Performance Computing to those without prior exposure, in the style of The Carpentries.

Registrations are limited to 15 because we would like to prove one teaching assitant for every 5 students, in addition to the lecturer. Teaching assistants will circulate the room and help bring you up to speed if you have a question or issue.

Topics covered will include connecting to an HPC system, working at the command line, schedulers and submitting jobs, the module system, and workflow tools.

What to bring

A laptop.

**Some software installations may be needed prior to the course. We will email attendees with more information.**

Level/Prerequisites

This workshop is for HPC novices looking to learn the basics about working in an HPC environment. It targets new or soon-to-be Livermore Computing (LC) users.
